Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Germany, Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Andriy Melnyk accused Germany of “selfish interests” which became the “failure” of the Minsk agreements.
“Why did Minsk fail? There were many reasons, but one of the main…was that Germany never bothered to become…an “honest broker”. The interests of the neutral intermediary were too intertwined with their own selfish interests, which eventually came to the fore,” he told RBC Ukraine.
According to Melnik, Germany did not ask Russia to respect the Minsk agreements, it decided “not to irritate the Russians”.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that he himself had stopped the implementation of the Minsk agreements, telling former German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron that they were “impossible”.
