Xi Jinping will talk to Zelenskyy, but not now – Leyen

Chinese President Xi Jinping is ready to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy when the time and conditions are right, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said.

“It was interesting to hear that President Xi Jinping has confirmed his willingness to speak when the conditions and the time are right,” she said at a press conference in Beijing (quoted by Interfax).

Leyen called the Chinese nation’s leader’s statement a “positive development.” She added that she had discussed with Mr. Xi a possible call with the Ukrainian leader and urged the Chinese president to do so.

Earlier, it was reported that Xi Jinping announced that China stands ready to help France resolve the conflict in Ukraine and convince the world community of the need to resume the negotiation process between the parties as soon as possible.
