Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Famous Meals of Death Row Inmates

It has long been a tradition in the United States that death row inmates are allowed to choose their last meal before execution. Mealtime rules vary from state to state, and Texas is the only state to have abolished the rule.

John Wayne Gacy “Pogo the Clown”

John the Clown was a serial killer, rapist and pedophile. He was found guilty of the rape and murder of 33 boys, 29 of whom were found under his house. He received twelve death sentences and was executed in 1994.

The last thing he ate was Kentucky Fried Chicken Shrimp, Chicken and Fries and almost a pound of strawberries.

Victor Feguer

Victor was a 28-year-old homeless drifter who was convicted of murdering a doctor in 1960.

His last meal was an olive with the pit. He hoped that by eating the stone, a tree would grow from his grave to represent peace.

Timothy McVeigh

Timothy was an American terrorist and mass murderer. He was sentenced to death for a terrorist attack in Oklahoma in 1995 that killed 168 people.

His last meal was a pint of mint chocolate chip ice cream.

Ronnie Lee Gardner

Ronnie was convicted of murdering a man as he tried to escape from a Utah courthouse, where he was charged with another murder. He was 49 when he was shot by a prison firing squad.

The last meal consisted of steak, lobster, apple pie, ice cream and 7-Up while he watched Lord of the Rings movies.

Velma Barfield “Death Row Granny”

Velma, or the Death Row Nurse as she was known, was tireless in helping her fellow inmates and giving them advice that helped them adjust to prison life. She was convicted of one murder but confessed to killing six others.

The execution took place on November 2, 1984, and his last meal was a bag of Cheez-Doodles and a can of Coke.

James Edward Smith

James was sentenced to death for murder, but it wasn’t the crime that put him on the map, but the Last Supper.

He wanted some dirt but was refused and with that his attempt to complete the voodoo ritual went out the window. He took yogurt instead.
