Engineer Abdullah bin Amer Al-Sawaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology in Saudi Arabia, announced the launch date for the flight of the first Saudi female astronaut, Rayana Bernawi, and astronaut Ali Al-Qarni.
Al-Sawaha said through his official account on Twitter: "With the support and empowerment of His Highness the Crown Prince and Chairman of the Supreme Space Council.. the first Saudi female astronaut Rayana Barnawi and astronaut Ali Al-Qarni are on a historic scientific mission to the International Space Station to empower people through research and innovations, good luck to the heroes of the homeland, and our date is next May, God willing".

One of the Saudi astronauts, who was announced by Saudi Arabia for their participation in the International Space Station flight, is 33 years old. She works as a research and laboratory specialist, as she obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Reproductive Science, Genetic Engineering and Tissue Development from the University of Otago in New Zealand.
She also obtained a master’s degree in biomedical sciences from King Faisal University, and has 9 years of experience in the field of cancer stem cells. This is according to Saudi media.
Last February, the Kingdom announced that the Saudi female astronaut and astronaut (Rayana Bernawi and Ali Al-Qarni) would join the AX-2 mission crew.
The scientific journey will start from the United States of America to the International Space Station, as the program includes training a female pilot and two other astronauts on all mission requirements, namely (Maryam Firdous and Ali Al-Ghamdi).
