Blind people celebrate Garangao

The Qatari Cultural Center for the Blind participated in the Garangao celebrations organized by Al Rayyan Sports Club, which was held at the club’s headquarters with the participation of various parties, including the Qatar Red Crescent, the Social and Cultural Center for People with Special Needs, and Tariq Bin Ziyad School. The members of the center participated in the celebration activities, which included many activities and distributing gifts, sweets and nuts for Garangao. Mr. Faisal Al-Kooheji, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center, indicated that the Center is keen annually to celebrate this night as a heritage night characterized by joy and drawing joy on the faces of children, and an emphasis on the participation of the Center’s employees in the activities held by various state institutions, agencies and centers. He stressed that this celebration is an important social occasion and a well-established popular tradition that reflects the authenticity of the Qatari heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. Garangao night is a popular Ramadan custom celebrated by the State of Qatar and the Arab Gulf states in the blessed month of Ramadan, where children of the freej of both sexes – from 6 to 12 years old – gather, visit homes and sing songs about Garangao, and the people of the houses offer them nuts and sweets.
