NAO Residents Rejoice at Growth in Urban Environmental Quality Index

Narian-Mar won 8 points

The Ministry of Construction of Russia calculated the index of quality of the urban environment in 1,117 Russian cities in 2022. Narian-Mar scored 199 points, which is 8 points higher than last year. This means that the district capital is confidently included in the list of cities with favorable urban environment, according to the portal of state organs of the NAO.

The index assesses 36 different indicators of the quality of the urban environment. These are the types of urban spaces most in demand: housing, public and commercial, social and leisure infrastructures and adjacent spaces, green spaces, embankments, road infrastructures and urban space. All indicators are evaluated according to six important indicators: safety, comfort, respect for the environment, identity and diversity, modernity of the environment and efficiency of the administration. Each indicator is evaluated on a ten-point scale, the values are added together and form the final quality index.

— Naryan-Mar belongs to the group of small and medium-sized towns with more than 25,000 inhabitants, located in a conditionally uncomfortable climate. For 2021, the real value was 191 points, in 2020 – 189 points, in 2019 – 174 points, in 2018 – 170 points. The increase over 2019 was 14%. The maximum number of points a city can score is 360. The urban environment is considered favorable if the quality index is above 180 points, – said the Department of Construction, Housing, energy and transport of the NAO.
