The US Department of Commerce is considering possible “enforcement action” against Kaspersky Lab, according to the Wall Street Journal (WSJ).
Possible specific measures are not called out, it is only noted that they can be applied within the framework of existing online safety rules. Citing sources, the WSJ notes that based on the measures taken against Kaspersky Lab, other measures may be developed, for example, against the Chinese social network TikTok, as well as other resources under Chinese control.
The U.S. Commerce Department said the agency intends to use its full powers “to protect confidential American data” and to work with Congress “to adapt to changing risks.”
Earlier, the WSJ reported that in the United States and Europe, there were concerns about a possible increase in cyberattacks in the event of sanctions against Kaspersky Lab.
