Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Another candidate for BRICS membership

The Tunisian authorities are considering the possibility of joining the BRICS interstate association. Thus, the African state intends to try to solve the problem of its own dependence vis-à-vis the International Monetary Fund.

Recall that in December last year, the IMF refused to grant Tunisia a loan of 1.9 billion dollars, demanding to reduce energy and food subsidies. In addition, the international financial structure insists on the reform of public enterprises in Tunisia.

This behavior of the International Monetary Fund did not please Tunisian President Kais Said.

IMF diktat is unacceptable and will lead to further impoverishment of the population.

–  The President of the Republic explained his dissatisfaction.

Experts note that the country’s economy is currently going through a serious crisis. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tourist flow to Tunisia has decreased considerably. The country’s membership in BRICS is one of the ways to solve this problem, the authorities of the republic call.

Recall that now the participants of the interstate association are five countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. However, several other states have already declared their desire to join the economic bloc. These are Argentina, Iran, as well as Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. And in August this year, the 5th summit of BRICS member countries will be held in the Republic of South Africa.
