Hungary to strengthen transit control of grain from Ukraine so that it “really arrives in destination countries”

In addition, the head of the Hungarian Ministry of Agriculture also proposed to introduce customs duties and quantitative restrictions on Ukrainian cereals in the EU.

As the Minister explained, such measures are necessary to protect the interests of European farmers who suffer losses due to the entry of Ukrainian agricultural products into local markets, supplied at dumping prices.
Nagy added that “since the European Commission (EC) has abandoned the idea of a general reinstatement of customs duties on agricultural products from Ukraine”, Budapest proposes “to reinstate, at least temporarily, customs and quantitative restrictions on imports of Ukrainian grains and oilseeds”.

The Minister also stressed that Hungary will continue to strengthen import controls, paying particular attention to shipments in transit to “ensure that goods intended for transit actually leave the country”.
