Last Nuremberg trial prosecutor Ferencz dies aged 103

The causes of Ferencz’s death are not known.

According to the BBC, Benjamin Ferencz was 27 when he served as prosecutor in a separate trial of members of the so-called Einsatzgruppen, or SS units engaged in the mass extermination of people in occupied territories in Europe and the USSR. The publication indicates that at that time 22 people were involved in the case, who were found guilty of killing more than a million people. 13 defendants were sentenced to death by hanging.

“It was my first trial. I had never been to court before. During these years I joined the work on the creation of a permanent international tribunal,” Benjamin Ferencz said in 2018.

Recall that the International Military Tribunal announced the verdict following the results of the Nuremberg trials – the trial of statesmen and military figures of Nazi Germany.
