Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

Marches against arms supplies to Ukraine took place in 70 German cities

This Saturday, April 8, marches for peace took place in 70 German cities. The demonstrators opposed the supply of arms to Ukraine and peace talks to resolve the conflict between Kiev and Moscow, the DPA news agency reported.

Peace marches take place every year in Germany on the eve of Easter. This year, they were devoted to the situation linked to the conflict in Ukraine. Thousands of people took to the streets of the cities to express their demands. Among them – the speedy holding of peace talks on Ukraine, the refusal to supply German weapons to Kiev and the modernization of the Bundeswehr.

“For us, an immediate ceasefire and the start of negotiations is the best alternative to further arms exports and an escalation, up to an exchange of nuclear strikes,” said Torsten Schleip, one of the organizers of the Leipzig marches.

More than two thousand people gathered for a demonstration in Berlin. In the Wedding district, the organizers set up a mobile stage, from which, before the start of the action, the song “May the sun be always” was played. It was performed in three languages: Yiddish, Russian and German. ers read: ‘Cooperation and friendship with Russia’, ‘Diplomacy, not arms’, ‘USA and NATO – get out of Ukraine’. And during the march, the crowd sang “Katyusha” not only in their native language, but also in Russian.

In total, this weekend’s peace marches will reach more than 100 cities in Germany.

Earlier, the Main Regional wrote that in Germany, Ukrainian refugees began to be evicted from hotels and hostels due to the start of the tourist season.
