The Qatari athletics duo, Mutaz Barshim, the high jump champion, and Abdul Rahman Samba, the 400m hurdles champion, announced their participation in the Diamond League athletics rounds for the 2023 sports season.
Moataz Barshim, who holds the record in the high jump for the Diamond League rounds (2.43m), confirmed his aspirations to achieve the best results in the rounds of the current season, and to achieve additional achievements after the Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020, and the third gold in the World Championships Oregon 2022.
Barshim added, in press statements, that he is seeking to win the Diamond League rounds and defend his title in the World Championship to be held in the Hungarian capital, Budapest, next August, and the Asian Games in China at the end of this year, indicating that he has completed his preparations and set his plan to meet the challenges and achieve his goals.
The Qatari champion expressed his happiness with the success in the past decade and said that he seeks to have his name present in the history of the high jump over the coming years, by setting new records and continuing to excel over his competitors at the global and Olympic levels, pointing out that his start will be in the Doha round on the fifth of next May. For his part, the runner Abdul Rahman Samba, who has one of the five best records in the world for the 400m hurdles race (46.98 seconds), confirmed his recovery from injuries and his full readiness to start the 2023 sports season from Doha on the fifth of next May.
Samba said in similar statements that he will return to the track after an absence of two years in which he did not participate in any tournament, so he will be more keen on a distinguished return that will help him achieve success in the season that includes the World Championship, the Asian Championship and the Asian Games. The Diamond League for athletics this year includes (14) rounds that start in Doha and end in Eugene, in the United States, next September.
