A leak of Pentagon documents could greatly complicate US relations with its allies. Many countries have begun to question Washington’s ability to hold classified information. This can lead to a reduction in the exchange of intelligence information.
“Sharing content with each other requires trust and the assurance that certain sensitive information will be kept private,” The New York Times said in a post.
It is also noted that the leak could damage diplomatic relations. Documents that have surfaced on the net indicate that states also spy on their allies.
Recall that the day before it became known that secret Pentagon documents appeared on social networks. More than 100 documents were in the public domain. The US Department of Justice has already opened an investigation into the incident.
“Government officials with Secret Service clearance often receive these documents via email, and these emails may then be automatically forwarded to others,” the NYT publication notes.
It is alleged that it will be very difficult to find whoever “leaked” the documents. Hundreds of military and government officials have security clearances.
