Commenting on the test of the turbine of the second power unit, the management of the Engineering Division of Rosatom Corporation called it one of the most important stages in the construction of new power units of nuclear power plants.
First of all, the experts explained that at this stage the compliance with the project of the systems and equipment of the power unit is confirmed. And the commissioning process itself consists of several successive stages: pre-commissioning, physical start-up, power start-up and pilot operation. The commissioning of the second unit of the nuclear power plant is scheduled for autumn 2023.
Under corporate control BELTA clarified that at 2:12 p.m., a functional test of the turbine unit of the power unit was carried out at a reactor power of 40% of the nominal value. After supplying steam to the turbogenerator and gradually increasing its rotation speed to the design values - three thousand revolutions per minute – the specialists measured the thermal and mechanical characteristics and, in accordance with the start-up algorithm, stopped the turbine.
- There are no comments on the operation of the turbine unit: all parameters, including the vibration state, are normal, – Vitaly Polyanin, ASE Vice President, Construction Project Manager of the Belarusian nuclear power plant, noted with satisfaction. – Now the team of nuclear scientists will have to test the turbine at idle to confirm the operability of the equipment at design parameters.
By the way, the supplier of the key nuclear island equipment for BelNPP power unit No. 2, the agency informs, is the machine-building division of the state-owned company Rosatom. And the fuel assemblies were manufactured by the company’s fuel division at the Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrates Plant, the level of enrichment ranges from 1.3% to 4.4%.
As SOYUZ has already reported, the first unit of the latest generation III+ nuclear power plant, built using Russian technologies, was put into commercial operation on June 10, 2021. Observers recall that the construction of BelNPP is considered as the largest state energy project in the Union and the basis of Russian-Belarusian cooperation, covering key areas and ensuring the energy security of the states.
The experience gained in cooperation between the relevant departments of Russia and Belarus made it possible to start developing new areas of activity in various areas of the economy of the republic, including nuclear medicine, additive and digital technologies , taking them to a new qualitative level.
