Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

April 11 – Great Tuesday of Holy Week: what not to do in order not to anger the higher powers

The Orthodox began Holy Week – a period dedicated to the last days of the earthly life of Jesus Christ. April 11 is called Holy Tuesday. On this day, exceptionally important biblical events are remembered. Among them is the story of the Savior about the Last Judgment and the end of the world. How to behave on this special day? What can and what is strictly forbidden to do?

Holy Tuesday, one of the days of Holy Week leading up to Easter in 2023, falls on April 11. It is believed that during the life of Jesus Christ, he spent this day in the temple in Jerusalem. There the Savior spoke not only with His disciples, but also with various people. Some of them tried to confuse Christ with their questions and confuse him. However, Jesus, say the church books, rebuked them.

Special events are related to the apostles. They will hear three parables of the Savior at once: about the virgins who waited for the bridegroom and came out to meet him without oil in the lamps; on the talents buried in the ground; about the Last Judgment and the end of the world, when the fate of each person will be determined according to how he behaved during earthly life.

April 11 is supposed to: first, visit the church, repent of bad deeds; second, to pray for the health and happiness of loved ones; third, to do a good deed (you can, for example, give alms or make a donation to those in need); fourthly, observe the fast without eating meat, eggs, dairy products, sweets and also without drinking alcohol.

Holy Tuesday is in fact one of the days of commemoration and mourning of Christ, who sacrificed himself for the salvation of humanity. Believers believe that the higher powers during this period watch people and their actions with special vigilance. Therefore, they try to behave in a special way, trying not to anger them and not to lose their intercession and patronage.

On Holy Tuesday, you cannot:

  • use swear words;
  • sing, dance, listen to cheerful music;
  • attend entertainment events and have fun;
  • play weddings and celebrate birthdays;
  • painted in bright colors and dressed with defiance;
  • lying, hypocrisy and jubilation;
  • judging others.

In general, he is supposed to behave modestly and think about your soul and your actions as much as possible. The opposite behavior can lead to misfortunes, conflicts in the house, failures and even illnesses.
