San Juan: Three policemen were killed on Sunday in an ambush by a gang near Haiti’s capital. According to officials, a gang called Makak ambushed and killed three policemen in the Thomasin area of the country’s capital, Port-au-Prince. According to the National Union of Haitian Police Officers, an officer who survived the attack provided information about the killings.
According to officials, the police department in the country is grappling with paucity of resources and funds and nearly two dozen police personnel have lost their lives this year. Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henri has condemned the killings of the policemen and expressed condolences. He said that his government is taking all possible steps to create an environment of security and stability. At least 21 policemen have been killed so far in gang fighting over territory.
