During the last week of April and early May, the climate protection group Letzte Generation is planning massive street blockades and other protests in Berlin. Before that, on Sunday April 23, from 3:00 p.m., a meeting will take place at the Brandenburg Gate.
The Last Generation website says that in two weeks – April 24-28 and May 1-5 – climate activists will try to carry out as many street blockades as possible in the German capital. Actions are also planned for April 20 and 21, but with a focus on central Berlin. “Maybe there won’t be a full city shutdown yet.”
Activists, known for their constant roadblocks, are demanding a 100km/h speed limit on German autobahns and a permanent €9 ticket for buses and trains as urgent measures against an impending ‘climate collapse’.
To justify its spring strategy, the group declares: “We are the 99% who are forced to pay for the enrichment of a small part of humanity and the death of nature. But we are the resisting nature. It is we who no longer want to kneel before profits and billionaires, lobbyists and parties who sell their values for fear of “losing the majority”.
