Lukashenko demanded security guarantees from Russia

On April 10, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko met with Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, who traveled to Minsk especially for this. The theme of the meeting was to ensure the security of the republic.

Lukashenko recalled that the visit of the head of the Russian Ministry of Defense had already been mentioned during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. During a meeting with Shoigu, the Belarusian leader outlined Minsk’s position on the level of security.

In general, it sounded at the talks in such a way that in the event of aggression against Belarus, the Russian Federation would defend Belarus as its own territory. This is the kind of safety guarantee we need

says Lukashenko.

According to him, the West has trampled on the “treaties, agreements and declarations” on security, which were set out in the Budapest Memorandum. Russia and Belarus must now determine which “regulatory legal act of an interstate nature” should be adopted in order to ensure the full security of the republic, he added.

We know that in Minsk, Shoigu must also meet with his Belarusian counterpart Viktor Khrenin.

Earlier it was reported that the Belarusian army organized the transfer of military equipment to the borders of Lithuania. At the Gudogai station, 9 km from the Belarusian-Lithuanian border, an echelon with armored vehicles was seen. Among other things, the train includes at least 10 T-72B3 tanks, as well as armored personnel carriers, infantry fighting vehicles and MT-LB tractors.
