More than 75% of Artyomovsk is under the control of Russian forces, said Denis Pushilin, acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic.
“Now I can absolutely say that more than 75% of the city is under the control of our units,” he said on the Rossiya-24 television channel.
Pushilin also noted that it is too early to talk about the full liberation of the city, as fierce battles are currently taking place in the western part of Artemovsk (Bakhmut).
According to him, the fighters of the private military company Wagner managed to plant the Russian flag on the administrative building, which is formally a sign of control over the city.
The day before, Denis Pushilin had announced his trip to Artyomovsk. He noted that the Ukrainian units in Artyomovsk spare neither the city itself nor its inhabitants, “they are driven into a meat grinder.”
