After demolishing it and rebuilding it.. "Awqaf" Hamad Bin Sultan Al Thani Mosque opens

The Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs inaugurated the Sheikh Hamad bin Sultan bin Jassim bin Muhammad Al Thani mosque – may God have mercy on him – in the Umm Al-Amad area, which can accommodate (1150) worshipers, and the project cost is an amount of (4,700,000) Qatari riyals, and it is located on a total area 2,267 square metres.

The inauguration, which took place recently, was attended by His Excellency Mr. Mohammed bin Hamad Al Kuwari, Assistant Undersecretary of the Ministry of Awqaf for Da`wah and Mosque Affairs, Sheikh Ahmed bin Hamad bin Sultan Al Thani, and Eng. Khalid Al-Abdul-Jabbar, Director of the Ministry’s Engineering Affairs Department.

The assistant undersecretary indicated, according to the ministry’s website, that the mosque was demolished and rebuilt. This is within the framework of the Ministry’s plan aimed at expanding the number of mosques and developing them in all regions of the country, and to keep pace with urban growth and population increase, in line with the country’s National Vision 2030.

The new mosque, which is a congregational mosque and the number (MS 604), includes a main prayer hall that can accommodate 650 worshipers, and a prayer hall on the mezzanine floor that can accommodate 450 worshipers, in addition to a women’s hall that can accommodate 60 worshipers. A car park, a number of which has been allocated to serve people with special needs, with the organization of entrances and exits.

The area of ​​the buildings and facilities attached to the mosque is 1,461 square meters, and the mosque is topped by a 32-meter high minaret.

The Department of Engineering Affairs is concerned with providing the needs of the regions in the country in terms of mosques and chapels, providing the regions with temporary mosques and supervising their preservation, and preparing the annual plan for the maintenance of mosques and imams’ residences, in coordination with the competent authorities.

It is also specialized in supervising the preparation and implementation of construction and maintenance works for mosques, and supervising the construction projects of mosques and residences for imams owned by the endowment in terms of designs, technical and engineering specifications, and implementation, and preparing a database on mosques, chapels and their workers.

In mosque designs, the administration takes into account the different areas of lands on which mosques will be built, the requirements for green buildings and sustainable buildings, stressing the conditions for sustainability in the use of electricity and water, and preserving the aesthetics of heritage in designs that reflect the authenticity of Qatari and Islamic heritage in accordance with the highest standards.

The ministry’s plans to build mosques also take into account the population density map, engineering and architectural specifications, and the heritage aspect within the framework of caring for the houses of God to perform worship and serve worshipers.
