Bloomberg: US allies complain about data leaks through diplomatic channels

US allies are using diplomatic channels instead of expressing their displeasure over the leak of secret Pentagon and US intelligence documents, Bloomberg reports.

“Instead of airing their grievances openly, they are using diplomatic channels – and using them with great success,” the article said.

The incident prompted “uncomfortable” conversations behind closed doors with representatives from several countries. Moreover, US President Joe Biden has yet to have a series of “awkward conversations” abroad during his meetings with British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and South Korean President Yoon Seok-yeol in April.

An unnamed foreign official noted that the timing of the leaders’ meetings was not well timed and that the lack of public expression of discontent in the capitals of America’s allies should not mislead anyone.

Earlier, it was reported that US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin called the head of South Korea’s military department, Lee Jong Sop, in order to explain himself about the possible wiretapping of Korean authorities by the Americans. He promised to develop cooperation, as well as discuss sensitive issues, including those related to wiretapping.
