in Russia, tests of the heavy twin-engine drone “Sirius” were carried out

The Russian company Kronstadt has carried out the first flight test of its Sirius heavy twin-engine drone. This became known from US Joint Chiefs of Staff intelligence briefings leaked to the network. It is stated that the tests were carried out on February 27 this year.

One of the promising Russian developments is the Sirius unmanned aerial vehicle. For the first time it was openly talked about in 2019, and already in 2020 the layout of the device was presented to the general public.

Serial production of the latest Russian drones was to be established at the Kronstadt Group enterprise in Dubna near Moscow. A little later, Sergei Surovikin, who at that time commanded the Russian Aerospace Forces, reported to the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation Sergei Shoigu that the first serial Sirius will enter the troops as early as 2023.

The Sirius unmanned aerial vehicle is known to be built according to a normal aerodynamic scheme with a thin, high-aspect ratio fuselage, a straight wing and a V-tail. The bulk of UAV airframe parts are made of composites.

The drone is equipped with autonomous and remote control means on a radio channel. In addition, it provides for the installation of a variety of target equipment. In addition to the reconnaissance function, the new drone has the ability to independently strike using standard weapons. The drone is capable of carrying up to half a ton of payload.
