Washington: According to the Pentagon, the leaking of classified documents of the US Department of Defense has become a major threat to the country’s national security. Along with Pentagon and White House officials, the Justice Department is probing how the highly sensitive documents were leaked, according to the report. According to the report, Chris Meagher, Assistant to the Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs, addressed reporters on Monday, saying that the documents pose a very serious risk to national security and have the potential to spread misinformation.

He said that we are still investigating the matter as to how it happened. The format of the documents is similar to other intelligence updates related to operations in Ukraine and Russia, as well as other intelligence updates, a top Pentagon official was quoted as saying. He said the Pentagon first learned of the document leak last week. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin first informed about the matter on 6 April. Meagher said the document leak prompts US officials to reassure our allies of our commitment to protecting intelligence and fidelity to our security partnerships.

The document first appeared on online platforms such as Twitter, and Telegram, as well as on a Discord server for the video game Minecraft. In addition to highly detailed information about the war in Ukraine, some of the leaked documents are said to shed light on sensitive briefing material belonging to US allies. A source close to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensyy said Kiev has already changed some of its military plans because of the leak.

Other documents focus on issues of defense and security in the Middle East as well as the Indo-Pacific region. Meanwhile, Congress lawmakers have expressed concern about the sensitivity of the documents posted online. Leaders of both the House and Senate Intelligence Committee are demanding answers from the Biden administration. According to the report, House Intelligence Chairman Representative Mike Turner is scheduled to be briefing on the matter. In a separate briefing on Monday, national security spokesman John Kirby said President Baden was briefed about the leak last week. Asked if the leak of the documents had been stopped, Kirby said, “I don’t know.”
