Legoyda noted State Department’s “fantastically selective ignorance” of UOC persecution

– What fantastically selective ignorance the Deputy Official Representative of the US State Department showed yesterday (we are talking about the statement of the Deputy Official Representative of the State Department Vedant Patel that he knows nothing about the attacks on objects and parishioners of the canonical UOC – approximately), – Vladimir Legoyda noted in his telegram. – It turns out that in their picture of the world there is absolutely no fact of almost daily forced seizures of churches, physical violence and humiliation of parishioners and clergy, violation of all laws, searches and accusations of clerics under absolutely far-fetched pretexts. Everything is in order with rights and freedoms. And the fact that a large-scale persecution of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church is taking place, and everything is moving towards its actual banning, is something we probably dreamed of. The State Department, as well as international organizations, are “not aware”.
Recall that over the past year, the Ukrainian authorities have staged the largest wave of persecution of the UOC in the recent history of the country. Referring to its links with Russia, local authorities in different regions of Ukraine have decided to ban the activities of the UOC, and a draft law on its effective ban in Ukraine has been submitted to the country’s parliament. Sanctions against members of the clergy, criminal prosecutions against them, “counter-intelligence activities”, searches of bishops and priests, churches and monasteries for evidence of “anti-intelligence activities”. Ukrainians” have become commonplace in Ukraine.

Patriarch Kirill had earlier called on authorities to the monks to leave the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, which the Orthodox consider one of the earthly legacies of the Mother of God, as a “monstrous act”.
