Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko told Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu that the republic requires Russia to provide security guarantees in the event of an attack on Minsk.
“It sounded during the talks (with Vladimir Putin) like this: in the event of aggression against Belarus, the Russian Federation protects Belarus as its own territory. This is the kind of security (guarantees) we need,” BelTA quotes him.
Lukashenko noted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin supports this initiative, affirming the need to review the treaties and agreements between Russia and Belarus in order to see which interstate regulatory legal act should be adopted to ensure the full security of the republic.
The day before it became known that Sergei Shoigu was holding a meeting with Alexander Lukashenko, the main topic of which was security.
