Qatar University, represented by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, has launched a series of educational training workshops for students and researchers at the university, which will last for a full month.
The series includes seven training workshops presented by elite academics and researchers at Qatar University, focusing on the methods, ethics and methodologies of writing solid, high-impact scientific research, as well as shedding light on the necessary procedures for patent registration.
Dr. Mariam Al-Maadeed, Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies, said in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) that these workshops provide an excellent platform for researchers to learn the latest trends and approaches in their various fields, and to participate in meaningful discussions with colleagues and experts from various disciplines.
She stressed the importance of raising the level of scientific research writing skills among students and researchers at Qatar University, and learning ways to increase the impact of research papers on the local and international scientific community, which is reflected in the university’s status, reputation and international classification. The series started with two workshops, the first on "Write a high-impact publishable research paper"by Dr. Basem Hammadi, Director of the Planning and Scientific Research Coordination Department, focused on the stages of writing the research paper from the moment the title was written, until its submission to the specialized scientific journal and then its acceptance after that.
As for the second workshop, it was presented by Dr. Muhammad Emara, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Medicine and Head of the Research Integrity and Ethics Department at the Planning and Scientific Research Coordination Department, and its title "Institutional Review Board, Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee, and A-Z Institutional Biorisk Committee".
The workshop dealt with the precautions that must be paid attention to and the procedures that must be followed and specified by the Ministry of Public Health when conducting any scientific research that includes human or animal elements or results in biological waste, in addition to reviewing the way the university deals with such research and the approvals that must be obtained.
The third workshop was devoted to a topic "Steps to improve the research article and improve its visibility by researchers"It will also be presented by Dr. Bassem Hammadi, and will be followed by the fourth workshop entitled "An effective and heavily cited review essay writing strategy" By Dr. Abu Bakr Abdullah, Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Qatar University, Director of the Research Innovation and Excellence Office at the University’s Planning and Research Coordination Department.
The fifth workshop, presented by Dr. Abdulaziz Bouras, Director of the Pre-Grants Research Department at Qatar University and Professor in the Department of Computer Science at the College of Engineering, focuses on: "Write a successful grant proposal".
The sixth and seventh workshops focus on the subject of the patent, with the first titled "Qatar University Patent Registration: What You Need to Know"and the second "How do you draft your patent?"They are presented by Dr. Abu Bakr Abdullah, Director of the Research Innovation and Excellence Office at the University’s Planning and Research Coordination Department.
