The Language Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies announced the organization of an international conference entitled "The Arabic language for its heirs: issues and approaches" On February 24, 2024. The two-day conference seeks to make a new contribution to the field of Arabic for its heirs through its approach from angles that include issues of concern for language heirs residing inside and outside Arabic-speaking societies. Dr. Alaa Al-Jabali, Director of the Language Center at the Doha Institute for Studies, said that the conference is of particular importance due to the"The peculiarity of the category of language inheritors and their needs that are absent from many of those working in the field of teaching Arabic, so the conference stands out as a platform that we hope will provide effective solutions and theoretical answers that benefit those working in this field, and reflect positively on the motivation of the Arabic inheritors in learning or continuing to learn it.". The Director of the Language Center invited researchers and those interested from inside and outside the State of Qatar to participate in the conference, noting that research papers will be received on the conference e-mail before mid-May. For her part, Dr. Rana Seblini, a lecturer in Arabic at the Language Center, explained the importance of discussing the phenomenon of the heirs of the Arabic language, as their numbers are increasing due to the multiplication of migration movements to foreign countries on the one hand, and the tendency of Arab children for decades to enroll them in international rather than local curricula, especially in Arab Gulf states, on the other hand. It is worth noting that the Language Center at the Doha Institute for Graduate Studies plays an active role in improving the skills of community members and students of the Institute in communication and functional and academic language through a series of courses, programs and training courses in Arabic and English.
