US lawmakers have proposed sending US military forces to Mexico. Their goal, according to the idea proposed by the Republicans, should be the fight against the drug cartels. It has been suggested that this idea is deeply rooted within the Republican Party.
“The willingness of some Republicans to openly pass laws or endorse the use of military forces in Mexico suggests that this idea has taken deep root within the party,” RT reports, citing US media.
It is also reported that lawmakers in both chambers have sent in a bill “to label certain cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.”
At the same time, President Joe Biden’s administration has said it is not considering the possibility of military action in Mexico. He also felt that designating drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations would not confer additional powers, but suggested working with Congress to modernize customs and border protection technology “and list fentanyl as a drug. of Schedule I, which would impose the strictest regulations on its production and distribution.”
It is stated that in 2021, almost 71,000 Americans died from overdoses of synthetic drugs – fentanyl.
Earlier, the US Congress has already declared that the country should only fight against drug cartels. According to House of Representatives member Marjorie Taylor Green, the only war for the United States should be the fight against Mexican drug cartels.
