On 10 April, Chinese President Xi Jinping began an inspection tour of China’s Guangdong Province. They first reached the city of Chenchiang. There he inspected the south base of the National 863 Project Mariculture Seed Project, the mangrove area of Golden Cow Island located in Hukwang Town, Machaiang District, the Kwangtung Water Resource Allocation Project around Shuwen Port and North Bay. They learned about the local development of marine fisheries, strengthening the protection of mangroves, improving the level of interconnection of transportation infrastructure, promoting the joint development of Guangdong and Hainan, and optimizing the allocation of water resources.
Mangroves are a unique xeric woody plant community in the intertidal zone of tropical and subtropical coasts. It is known as the “Sea Forest” and “Guardian of the Sea”. The Mangrove National Nature Reserve in Chenjiang City, Guangdong Province covers a total area of about 20,000 hectares, which is the largest mangrove nature reserve in China. Chenchiang has a total of 26 species of mangrove plants, of which 10 species are found in Golden Cow Island, an area with rich mangrove biodiversity in the city.
Chenchiang in recent years strengthened mangrove ecosystem protection and centralized contiguous restoration, promoted the deep integration of coastal tourism, sightseeing agriculture, leisure fishing with mangrove ecological protection, and exploited the economic value of mangroves While doing this, we tried to create a “Green Engine” for high quality development.
