Kineshma Sokolniki landfill can perhaps be called the most ecologically unfavorable place in the city. It was closed more than ten years ago, but it still poisons the lives of Kineshma residents with endless smoke and smells that are by no means floral.
Just last year, regional authorities were intrigued by the solution to the landfill problem. They did a review, developed a reclamation project, made an estimate, knocked out about $400 million in federal funds with a total project cost of $434 million, the deputy said. Chairman of the Ivanovo Regional Duma Alexander Fomin.
Work on the landfill began two weeks ago. Perennial deposits, smoldering somewhere in the depths of the garbage heaps, are dug up and flooded with water. Things are moving at a good pace. About 20% of the landfill has already been processed, nothing more should burn here.
Alexander Fomin promises to seriously control the work and reports that there is every chance of eliminating all fires before the end of May. After that, the fetid “breath” of the landfill will stop, and it will be possible to calmly reclaim the territory.
Earlier, we wrote about the Kineshma City District Administration’s request to the residents of the city to sympathetically deal with the increased smell of smoldering waste during the disposal of fires.
