The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) announced that 25 contestants in the semi-final qualifying stage have qualified for the Katara Award for Holy Quran Recitation in its sixth session 2023.
The finalists compete in this stage for the top five positions, through five episodes (broadcast on Qatar TV) that guarantee the rise of 5 finalists to the final qualifying stage, through which the three winners will be arranged among the five leaders.
The 25 finalists for the semi-finals are: 4 from Iraq, Egypt and Morocco, 3 from Syria and 2 from Algeria, and one contestant from each of the following countries: Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen, Indonesia, Afghanistan, India and Tanzania.
The jury of the Katara Award for Holy Quran Recitation includes arbitrators known for their competence and experience in the field of intonation and sweetness of voice. The previous one, Sheikh Abd al-Rashid Sufi, holds the highest certificates in the ten readings, Sheikh Mahmoud al-Akkawi, holds high certificates in the readings.
While the Voice Sweetness Committee consists of three members specialized in sounds and maqamat, they are: Sheikh Bahloul Abu Arqoub, an expert and professor of Maqamat science, Professor Muhammad Asim Al-Bunni, Master of Acoustical Engineering, and an international arbitrator in international competitions for the Holy Qur’an and religious chanting, Sheikh Muhammad Amin Mashali, licensed The ten readings and has several international arbitration posts.
