State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev introduced a bill that proposes to deprive citizens of the right to hold public service positions for life if they evade conscription.
According to him, citizens who conscientiously fulfill their constitutional duty should not enjoy the same rights as those who evade military service.
“In this regard, I consider it necessary to toughen penalties for fraudsters,” Rossiyskaya Gazeta quoted him as saying.
In addition, Zhuravlev advocated an amendment prohibiting deviants from being elected as deputies to legislative bodies of the Russian Federation.
Earlier, Chechnya’s leader Ramzan Kadyrov said jailing the “escapees” was too light a sentence.
