Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss will accuse Western leaders who recently visited China of weakness over their attempt to improve relations with China over the conflict in Ukraine, the Politico newspaper reports.
Liz Truss will deliver a speech in Washington, during which she will say that too many Westerners have “reconciled and adapted” to the policies of Russia and China. She also intends to call for a more aggressive attitude towards Beijing and Moscow.
“Western leaders who visit President Xi (Jinping) to ask for his support to end the war are a mistake and a sign of weakness. Our energy must be directed towards taking further steps to support Taiwan. We have to make sure Taiwan is able to defend itself,” Truss was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
The former prime minister won’t name a particular French president, Emmanuel Macron, but she will “deal a not-so-subtle blow” to him for trying to improve relations with the Chinese side.
Earlier it was reported that the French president failed to persuade Chinese President Xi Jinping to change his stance on Ukraine.
