Akbar Al Baker to CNN: Qatar seeks to be a family destination and we are not after numbers

His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Airways and President of Qatar Tourism, said that Qatar seeks to be a family destination, pointing out that the most important factor is to provide an unparalleled experience for visitors and receive numbers that can be accommodated.

His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker explained during a video interview with CNN: "We don’t want 20, 30 or 100 million visitors, we want a number my country can handle and give visitors an experience like no other."

And about whether the region is ready for another carrier, the CEO of Qatar Airways described that competition in the sector is tantalizing "Survival of the fittest"Stressing that there is a commercial activity for everyone and Qatar seeks to be unique.

Al-Baker confirmed that the success of the World Cup and the provision of a great airport experience made a big impact, as people came to Qatar and the number of visitors already exceeded one million foreign visitors to the country in the first three months of this year.

The CEO of the national carrier added that Qatar has the sea, sand, culture and historical places, but " The only thing is we didn’t promote all that well.. Now after FIFA our mission is to make sure that Qatar will always be remembered as a favorite destination for people to visit."

On the rise in oil prices, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker said: "We have had good luck in the past three years with the hedge that we had that was always positive but the hedge that we have now is over and the oil prices are high..we don’t know where the oil price will go with the conflict going on."
