Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov says Washington has still not allowed Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s special flight to arrive in New York, where he is supposed to attend the events of the UN in April. The diplomat’s remarks lead RIA Novosti.
The head of the Russian diplomatic mission announced the absence of visas for Lavrov and demanded that the American side immediately coordinate the arrival of the special flight of the head of the foreign policy department.
“We urge Washington to immediately issue visas for our delegation, as well as for the journalists. Their non-extradition is a violation of the obligations of the United States as the host country of the UN headquarters, preventing the proper functioning of the world body in its own right,” he stressed.
According to Antonov, the situation around Lavrov’s special plane seems extremely incomprehensible. He also noted that Moscow expects from Washington “the rapid issuance of a permit for the passage of the plane without any conditions or restrictions”.
Earlier, it became known that UN Secretary-General António Guterres plans to meet Lavrov as part of his visit to the organization’s headquarters, scheduled for the end of April.
