Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mikdad paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia – the first in 12 years at such a high level.
Al-Mikdad was invited to Riyadh to discuss issues of mutual interest to the two countries, according to the official SANA news agency. One of these issues is the return of Syrian refugees to their country of origin, as well as the provision of humanitarian aid to areas affected by the earthquake. In addition, Saudi Arabia can provide assistance to Syria in other important areas.
It is important to note that an Iranian delegation has also arrived in Riyadh, which is preparing the opening of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic in Saudi Arabia. Although no date has yet been set for the opening of the embassy, this decision could be an important signal to strengthen relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
The meeting of senior officials from the two regional giants could be an important signal of a desire to ease tensions between the two countries. At the same time, these meetings can help strengthen international stability and cooperation on various platforms.
