Tatarstan’s Supreme Court sentenced Ilnaz Galyaviyev to life imprisonment for shooting at a school in Kazan on May 11, 2021. informed CASS.
Galyaviev was found guilty of murdering two teachers and seven children at Gymnasium No. 175 in Kazan. He will serve his sentence in a special regime colony.
During the March 29 debate, the prosecution asked to sentence Galyaviev to life imprisonment with the first five years in prison, the remainder of the sentence in a special regime colony. The prosecutor’s office also suggested that the court fully satisfy the victims’ claims for compensation for moral damage, the amount of which is 121 million rubles. 667 people have been recognized as victims in the case.
On May 11, 2021, Ilnaz Galyaviev detonated a pipe bomb at the entrance to Gymnasium No. 175 in Kazan, then opened fire with a shotgun. Nine people died and 22 were injured.
According to the investigators, the young man sought to “imitate the actions of informal representatives of one of the destructive subcultures, information of which he learned on the Internet, by copying their behavior during the attack”.
Galyaviyev was charged under four articles: murder of two or more people, attempted murder, unlawful manufacture and possession of explosives and explosive devices, and willful destruction of property. During the investigation, Galyaviev fully admitted his guilt and repented.
