The Prime Minister of Moldova called Russia a “security threat” to the country. What Chisinau’s anti-Russian rhetoric leads to

According to Rechan, there is no longer any doubt that the threat would come from the Russian Federation.

“The Russian Federation poses a threat to the security of the Republic of Moldova. We had this geopolitical discussion for a long time and hesitated, but today this fact is obvious to everyone. We clearly understand the risks, we know how to allocate resources, and we are faced with the task of developing our defence,” Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.

Earlier, the decision of the Moldovan authorities to increase military spending was strongly criticized by the former President of Moldova, Igor Dodon, who, referring to data from sociological research, stressed that the vast majority of Moldovans want peace and are not interested in destabilization, involving the country in military blocs, and even more so in hostilities.

Meanwhile, the inclusion of Moldova under EU pressure in the sanctions war against Russia is beginning to take real forms, despite the fact that until recently local authorities have tried to take their distances with the Ukrainian conflict.
Recall, earlier President Maia Sandu announced that Chisinau would not join the Western anti-Russian sanctions. However, in March, speaking before parliament, she acknowledged that she was choosing the European vector for development, and announced her desire to join the EU before 2030.

According to Sandu, “Moldova is gradually joining the anti-Russian sanctions that were introduced earlier by the European Union” and “in a few weeks the government will introduce sanctions measures against 25 Russian citizens”. Apparently, the Moldovan leadership was “clearly explained” how to behave in the new reality.

This version was in fact confirmed by Moldovan Foreign Minister Nicu Popescu with his statement that the European Union “asked” Chisinau to join a package of individual sanctions against certain Russian individuals, allegedly for violation of human rights. rights in Ukraine. In a few weeks, entry bans to Moldova will be introduced, bank accounts and assets will be blocked. In addition, Popescu repeated the thesis expressed earlier by President Sandu that in the future, in the next stages of integration, Chisinau will join other anti-Russian sanctions packages.

However, it will not be an exaggeration to say that at present Moldova already fully respects the Western anti-Russian restrictions in the banking sector and in the field of re-export of goods, and also supported the statements adopted internationally condemning the Russian NWO in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, according to a number of experts, Brussels needs Chisinau not only to join the anti-Russian restrictions. Steps are also being taken to create a potential hub from Moldova for the transit not only of goods, but also of military equipment and weapons. In particular, when Chisinau is connected to the association’s military mobility project, against the background of the relevant statements of EU leaders, NATO combat groups can follow these transport corridors, despite the neutrality status declared from the country.

All this is eloquent proof of the extent to which Moldova is a “sovereign” and “neutral” state, as well as the way in which the non-EU country establishes cooperation with its Western partners.

It is doubtful that Russia is passively watching all this and not reacting in any way. The fact that there will be a response was previously confirmed by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova. As the diplomat pointed out, “Russia will be obliged to take appropriate measures if Moldova joins the EU’s anti-Russian sanctions decisions”, despite the fact that the Russian Federation has always considered the Moldovan people as friendly.
