Reshaping Perspectives and Catalyzing Diplomatic Evolution

A community campaign for health professions students at the university

The Student Organization for Interdisciplinary Health Education at Qatar University seeks to develop a sense of cooperation among students of health professions and to contribute to the development of society. With this in mind, the Student Organization for Interpersonal Health Education organized a community campaign under the title “Promoting People’s Action for a Healthier World”. This is in the Landmark Mall. It was organized by more than forty students, graduates, and faculty members from the Colleges of Pharmacy, Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and Health Sciences at Qatar University, in addition to a number of students from Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, the University of Calgary in Qatar, and Doha University of Science and Technology. This campaign attracted more than 500 members of the general public. The campaign consisted of four stations that visitors pass through in order, each of which deals with a different aspect of a healthy lifestyle, and is designed to improve their health in general. These stations were prepared and their content created in cooperation with faculty members from various health colleges at Qatar University. At the first stop, visitors were welcomed and introduced to the campaign, and they participated in a question-and-answer game for adults that focused on general information related to physical health. The rest of the stations contained a number of sports games and gifts for children at the campaign site. In addition, a number of useful pamphlets were distributed containing some practical tips that help visitors gain more understanding and awareness about taking care of their personal health. The second station dealt with the topic of “nutrition”. Visitors were provided with information and resources to help them adopt healthy eating habits. This station was designed to contain different sections that explain to the visitor the basics of food labels, and introduce him to information on added sugar, fiber and fat. The station also contained tangible examples and models that help visitors absorb this information and apply it in their daily diet.

Moving to the third station, visitors sought to improve their awareness of their own body, as the aim of this station was to focus on developing a positive body image in the person’s mind and to provide the necessary support for him regardless of the weight shown on the scale. In addition, this station focused on the most important mental health of people and its contribution to their physical health in general. In the fourth and final stop, visitors were introduced to various platforms in modern technology that help them improve their health and stay healthy. Where they can follow the exercise they do, the health habits they follow, and the number of steps they walk daily, using various tools such as phones and smart watches. Commenting on the campaign, Dr. Alaa Al-Owaisi, Director of Clinical Operations and Partnerships in the Health and Medical Sciences Sector at Qatar University, said: “We are very proud of the Student Organization for Interpersonal Health Education at Qatar University for organizing this kind of interactive activity with the community that has received great praise. from the audience. Their desire to improve health awareness and encourage individuals to prioritize their physical health is evidence of their serious commitment towards a better and healthier society in the State of Qatar.” For her part, Jawaher Baraka, President of the Student Organization for Interdisciplinary Health Education and a fifth-year student at the College of Medicine at Qatar University, said: “It is wonderful to witness this amazing cooperation between all the colleges of health professions in Qatar to raise public awareness about the healthy life system in all its aspects. I am happy to be part of this campaign, which we harvested from visitors on the same day.” Esraa Bashir, a fourth-year physiotherapy student at the College of Health Sciences at Qatar University, said: “Spreading awareness about health-related habits is one of our main responsibilities as healthcare practitioners in the future. As a physiotherapy student, I got the opportunity to interact with the audience and discuss the different exercises that are recommended and their health benefits for people, and share with them a number of simple steps that they can follow to increase their physical activity.”
