Folk omens for April 15: what not to do on this day

On April 15, according to the folk calendar, the day of Titus the icebreaker is celebrated. Traders also called this date “profit day”.

On this day, the Orthodox Church celebrates the memory of Saint Titus the Wonderful, who lived in the 9th century. St. Titus received the nickname “icebreaker” among people due to the fact that on the day of his arrival the rivers and lakes finally opened up and the ice began to drift. It was customary to carefully observe this process: if the ice sinks, sinks to the bottom, then you need to prepare for a difficult year. If there is little ice and the water spreads evenly, you can expect good grass and early mowing.

What you should not do:

You cannot be alone, otherwise you can bring misfortunes and sorrows on yourself. It is impossible for traders to arrange a day off, it is their day. You can’t talk about bad things, then there will be harmony in the house. You cannot sharpen knives. You can not lend salt or sugar – to a quarrel. You can’t be called by someone else’s name – you can get someone else’s fate.

Panels:

If on this day the river overflows its banks, expect tall grass and early mowing. When the spring ice on the lakes and backwaters does not move, but flows, the year will be difficult. A corner of cranes stretches to the south – the year will be lean and fruitless. Crows are playing in the sky – the weather will be clear and sunny. If a large flock of cranes is pulled north, it will be hot. If flocks of cranes head south in the spring, expect cold weather with frequent winds. Black grouse fall asleep deep in the forest – to winds and rainy weather. The crow caws in bad weather, and the crow in sorrow. If the ice on the rivers flows, remains on the shore in pieces or does not leave, and on the fields the winter road remains a bump – the summer will be scanty. If the ice is not gone, fishing will be unsuccessful. Flocks of jackdaws and crows promise bad weather. Crows are playing in the sky – the weather will be sunny. If the rooks and jackdaws hover in herds high up and shoot down – to rain, sit on the road in herds – in bad weather. If the spring waters flow slowly, the year will be difficult. Black grouse in early spring lek – the cold will last forever. The sparrows were chirping – the day will be sunny. The pigeons cooed – to the heat. If the hollow water spills, the grass will be tall and the mowing will be early.
