The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ukrainian Defense Ministry, Kirill Budanov, said that the Ukrainian Armed Forces absolutely must show Western countries a successful counteroffensive. Otherwise, he is sure, the allies will be disappointed and doubt the new arms deliveries to Kiev, reports ABC News.
“Without victories, sooner or later questions will arise whether it is worth continuing to support Ukraine. The success of this offensive operation is essential,” Budanov said.
Budanov also expressed his belief that a successful counter-offensive is no longer just a goal for Ukraine itself. According to him, it is also necessary for Western states.
Earlier, Joint Force Commander of the Ukrainian Armed Forces Serhiy Naev said that Kiev was planning an offensive, but the timing was kept secret. In addition, he commented on the situation on the Belarusian border, noting that if the number of troops from Russia and Belarus increases there, then Kiev will do the same in response.
