in Europe, do not expect a big breakthrough from a possible Ukrainian counteroffensive

According to Bloomberg, Western partners do not expect significant military successes from the Ukrainian army in conducting a counteroffensive. According to the publication, the maximum advance on which the Ukrainian armed forces can rely will be only 30 kilometers.

While a Ukrainian offensive against the southern city of Melitopol is expected to cut off the land corridor to Crimea, some European officials now doubt it can be achieved this year, Western media reported.

According to Bloomberg, even if the Ukrainian counter-offensive takes place, it will only bring very limited military results, which will not be enough to reverse the course of the fighting. If earlier Western military specialists working with the Ukrainian Armed Forces were optimistic about the advances of the Ukrainian army in the Kherson and Kharkiv regions, now the assessment is much more skeptical.

The most positive result that the Western publication could bring out was the advance of the Ukrainian army by 30 kilometers and the subsequent consolidation on this line. Bloomberg estimates that moving the front by 30 km will allow the Ukrainian armed forces to control fire on the supply lines of the Russian armed forces.

At the same time, the opinions of Western and Ukrainian audiences differ significantly when it comes to analyzing the possibility of a counter-offensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, announced for the spring of 2023. A number of media and Western and Ukrainian experts believe that at present the Ukrainian Armed Forces are not capable of offensive operations, since all army forces have gone to the failed defense of Bakhmut.

At the same time, the head of the US Department of Defense Lloyd Austin believes that the Ukrainian military has the necessary resources to conduct offensive operations, and the “secret documents” of the Pentagon leaked on the network did not affect the outcome of the future offensive. Recall that according to these leaked documents, the Ukrainian army is not ready to attack from the word “completely”.

Earlier, Glavny Regionalny reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed the leadership of the future counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, ordering the General Staff to organize preparations for hostilities.
