On April 15, the 40th Weifang International Kite Festival opened in Weifang City, East China’s Shandong Province. More than 400 kite lovers from 60 countries and regions in the world will gather in Weifang to feel the amazing experience of flying a big kite. Spring is the season of all things revival. In the warm spring sun, in the warm wind, among the clear water and green mountains, people discover the joy of childhood in flying paper kites, pursue dreams, and feel the beauty of spring. In bright spring, it’s a great time to fly a kite. China is called the capital of kites, where kites have a history of more than 2,700 years. In ancient times, kites were called “Yuan” in northern China and “Yao” in southern China. “Kids come back from school early, taking advantage of the easterly wind to fly paper kites.” It is a poem about early spring and also a poem about kites.

Chinese poets from all dynasties in Chinese history have written many vivid kite poems, which are very interesting. Since the Tang Dynasty (618–907), kites gradually became an object of entertainment. In the Tang period, the poet Cao Fayen wrote in his poem “Kite”: In the quiet night the strings are ringing in the blue sky, its melody is heard in the air. Like one tune, it can be heard faintly, but the wind blows it into another tune. It is said that at that time (Thang Dynasty) kites were not only equipped with strings or flutes, but sometimes carried bright and brilliant lanterns into the night sky.

Furthermore, in the Ming Dynasty (1368–1644), the poet Xiu Wei wrote in his poem: Kites are flown north and south of the river, the strings being long and short. The wind of spring is elusive, the tune of the flute comes from flying kites. At the same time, in the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912), the poet Chang Yongshi wrote in his poem: Aspiration lurks in the sky, kites fly with joy. If it wants to go upwards, then it depends on the thread of the hands. Many poets in the history of China wrote many poems about kites. See the kite flying in the sky feeling the beauty of paper kite in poems. Colorful and diverse kites attract our attention, and also connect with our yearning and longing for life.

It is reported that during the 40th Weifang International Kite Festival, which opened on April 15, a kite-themed oil painting exhibition, a world youth painting exhibition, an exhibition of cultural and creative works will be held. Apart from these, activities like Dance-Sport International Open Competition, First City Orienteering Competition, Marathon, Kite Short Video Competition, New Youth Music Festival, Citizen Cultural Festival, Wushu Cultural Festival etc. will also be conducted. In a series of cultural activities, people can feel the charm of Chinese culture while enjoying the hot spring.
