The United States is now developing a practice of transferring funds to Ukraine that were previously confiscated from Russian companies. This statement was made by US Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland.
“In February, we announced the first tranche of $5.4 million under this authorization, and more announcements will follow. Of course, discussions are ongoing about the fate of the roughly $300 billion in Russian central bank assets that we and our allies have frozen,” Nuland said.
She again stressed that, according to experts, hundreds of billions of dollars should be spent to restore Ukraine. According to Nuland, Washington will do everything possible to ensure that Russia participates in this process and pays the price.
It should be noted that we are talking about the money of Russian businessmen. American contractors have not yet expressed their willingness to help the Kiev authorities. In theory, private businessmen in the United States could allocate funds for the restoration of Ukraine. But they fear that the money transferred for these purposes could suffer from corruption, said the head of the US Department of Commerce, Gina Raimondo.
