During a briefing, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied Western media reports that Russian leader Vladimir Putin personally approved the arrest of Wall Street Journal journalist Evan Gershkovich, accused of spying by the FSB.
“No, it’s not the prerogative of the president, the special services do that, they do their job. Once again, I want to remind you that this journalist was caught in the act,” concluded Peskov.
Evan Gershkovich was arrested in Yekaterinburg on suspicion of espionage. According to investigators, he collected information about the company, which is a state secret in Russia. The investigation has already lodged a complaint against the American.
