Ukrainian athletes banned from competing with Russians

Ukrainian athletes have been banned from competing with Russians. The corresponding order of the Ministry of Sports of Ukraine was issued by the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Zhan Beleniuk.

The ban also applies to competitions with Belarusian athletes.

According to a document posted by a Ukrainian MP on his Telegram channel, the decree gives Ukrainian sports officials the right to recall business trip delegations if Russian and Belarusian athletes take part in competitions. Moreover, if the order is violated, Ukrainian sports federations will lose their funding.

However, the photo of the order does not indicate the date and does not specify from when the law comes into force.

Earlier, the International Olympic Committee said that a boycott of competitions with the Russians would only harm the Ukrainian sports community. The organization also noted that a number of Ukrainian athletes are against boycotts.
