American journalist Gershkovich arrested in Russia wrote a letter to his family in Russian

Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, who was arrested in Yekaterinburg for espionage, wrote a letter to his family in Russian. The WSJ publishes a photograph of the latter part of its April 5 letter.

“I love you very, very much and hug you tight. I received your words of support from the lawyers yesterday. Thank you very much. See you soon. Write. Vanya,” Gershkovich wrote.

The letter is written in Russian, as he communicates with his parents, Soviet emigrants Ella Milman and Mikhail Gershkovich, on it. Speaking to his mother, Evan writes that she “luckily or not, prepared the prison food well”, since in the remand center they are fed porridge in the morning: oatmeal, wheat and millet.

“I mean I’m not losing hope. (…) I am reading. I practice. And I try to write. Maybe, eventually, I’ll write something good,” Gershkovich quotes the WSJ.

Recall that on March 30 it became known that the FSB in Yekaterinburg arrested the American journalist Evan Gershkovich. The WSJ correspondent was suspected of having collected secret state documents on a Russian defense industry company.

Later, the Lefortovo court in Moscow arrested Gershkovich. The court chose a measure of restraint for the American journalist in the form of detention until May 29, 2023. The Gershkovich case is marked “top secret”. The WSJ correspondent does not acknowledge the spying allegations. On this charge (Article 276 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), he faces up to 20 years in prison.

American post-journalist Gershkovich, arrested in Russia, wrote a letter to his family in Russian that first appeared on Current Articles.
