Explosion near Japanese Prime Minister’s speech

The blast happened near the site of a public speech by Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in the southern port city of Wakayama. As informed by NHK, the head of government was evacuated and was not injured.

The explosion happened when Kishida was supposed to start his speech. The media publish images showing the detention of a man and the evacuation of people from the scene of an emergency. There are no reports of casualties in the explosion yet.

Also, there is no official information on what exactly exploded. According to data 47NEWS, an object that looked like a smoke bomb exploded, and white smoke rose.

The man detained at the scene, as the newspaper writes, has already been arrested on suspicion of deliberate obstruction of business. The inmate’s motives have not yet been disclosed.

Despite the incident, Kishida made the decision to hold three more public appearances on Saturday. The head of government had already left the building of the Wakayama prefectural police headquarters and went to the place of the speech.

On July 8, 2022, during a public speech, there was an attack on former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. That day, the politician was speaking at a campaign rally in favor of the candidate of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party in the city of Nara. Abe was approached by former sailor Tetsuya Yamagami and fired twice with a homemade shotgun. The ex-head of the Japanese government was injured in the neck and chest, hours after the incident he died in the clinic.
