The current crisis between the two forces began to escalate last Thursday when the Sudanese army declared that the movements of the RSF, particularly in the city of Marawi, were illegal.

The Rapid Support Forces announced that they had taken control of the airports of Khartoum and Marawi, and television reports reported that they had captured several fighter jets at Marawi airport. But later, the army confirmed that it controls the airports of Khartoum and Meroe.
Sudanese TV stopped broadcasting after reports of gunfire at its headquarters.
The commander of the Sudanese army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, is personally following the developments of the situation. On the other hand, the Rapid Response Forces announced that they had taken control of Al-Burhan’s residence, but the army denied these statements.
