Alabama police investigate Deadville shooting

Alabama law enforcement is investigating a shooting in Deadville, Alabama that left four dead and several injured.

The shooting happened at a birthday party Saturday night, Alabama Police Enforcement Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said.

There was no word on what led up to the shooting. It is not known if the suspect has been arrested.

“Four people were tragically killed in this incident and there are many injured,” Burkett said at a news conference Sunday morning.

Pastor Ben Hayes, worship leader for the Deadville Police Department and the local high school football team, said most of the victims were teenagers because the shooting took place at his birthday party. a 16 year old boy. He said the shooting shocked a small town where serious crime rarely happens.

“One of the kids who was killed was one of our top athletes and just a great guy. So I got to know a lot of those students. Deadville is a small town and this (event) will affect everyone in the area,” explained Hayes.

WRBL-TV reported that filming took place at a dance studio.

“This morning I mourn with the people of Deadville and my fellow Alabama. Violent crime has no place in our state and we are closely monitoring law enforcement updates as they arise. as details become available,” Alabama Governor Kay Ivey said in a statement posted on social media.

President Joe Biden has been made aware of the shooting incident, the White House said, adding that the president is monitoring the situation closely and is in contact with local authorities and law enforcement to provide assistance if necessary.

Deadville is in eastern Alabama, approximately 60 miles northeast of Montgomery.
